We offer a 4-year predoctoral contract to carry out a PhD thesis in the research group "Neuroprotection strategies in neurodegenerative diseases" at the Research Institute Sols-Morreale (CSIC-UAM) in Madrid. Our group also belongs to the Research Institute “Hospital Universitario La Paz” and CIBER research network in neurodegenerative diseases. These structures allow us to collaborate actively with clinical neurologists and pathologists from the Queen Sofia Foundation Tissue Bank. Very relevant, we are leading the European COST action (BenBedPhar) paving the way to international collaborations.
We need enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates that come from Biochemistry and related degrees, willing to initiate their scientific carrier in our laboratory. Our team studies the protective mechanisms to maintain homeostatic responses and how these mechanisms could be pharmacologically targeted to provide superior defense. We are currently studying the role of the transcription factor NRF2 in protection against stimuli that induce neurodegeneration. Due to the resources of space and budget are limited, applicants need to have an outstanding background as follows.
The main requisites are:
1) interest in devoting their carrier to research
2) solid background in molecular biology and master’s degree in Biosciences
3) average score over 8.5 of all subjects taken so far during the Grade and Master
4) Hands-on experience in animal handling
5) Very important: fluency in English is required
We offer:
1) The opportunity to be part of one of the UAM-CSIC campus of international excellence
2) An excellent working, multidisciplinary environment
3) 4-year contract (former FPI-UAM fellowship) linked to “Proyecto de generación de conocimiento 2022 (PID2022-141786OB-I00)”
