Job description

We are 2 Translational Research Groups at “Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre” (Madrid) led by Dr. Elena Castro, MD PhD, (Translational Cancer genetics) and Dr. David Olmos, MD PhD, (Prostate Cancer Genomics and Therapeutics). We work closely on several projects as a multidisciplinary team within the Genitourinary Cancer Program. Our projects aim to unlock the potential of LP-WGS, WES, and genetic panels to find new prognostic and predictive markers in prostate cancer. These 2 research groups are integrated in the Medical Oncology Department at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre (H12O) led by Prof. Luis Paz-Ares.

We seek a highly motivated Computer Engineer or Informatics Engineer to join our labs. The candidate should have the required computational skills to provide crucial support to our researchers. The role will primarily involve maintaining and managing our resource data in the High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, maintaining and managing databases, and ensuring the smooth operation of our variant calling pipeline.

We generate massive amounts of genomic data from cohorts of cancer patients from our clinical projects and perform variant calling and variant interpretation to identify new biomarkers.

What do we offer?

We offer a two-year funded position with the possibility to extend this tenure according to results and career aims.

We offer a competitive salary according to institutional scale.

Key Responsibilities:

 -  HPC Cluster Management:

  •   Maintain and optimize the performance of our High-Performance Computing Cluster.
  •   Troubleshoot and resolve issues to ensure uninterrupted computational support for our research projects.

 -  Database Management:

  •   Manage and maintain our database systems, with a strong emphasis on SQL.
  •   Ensure data integrity, security, and efficient retrieval for our researchers.

 -  Pipeline managing:

  •   Support our research team to improve and automate data processing.

 -  Technical Support:

  •   Provide technical assistance and guidance to researchers regarding computational resources, software tools, and data management.

 -  Hardware Support:

  •   Provide technical support for the maintenance and acquisition of informatic equipment.

 - Collaboration:

  •   Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the computational needs of ongoing research projects and adapt systems accordingly.
