The Computational Solid Mechanics Group at the IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for a pre-doctoral researcher to work in the topic of multi-scale modelling of biological tissues.

The hired researcher will work, while pursuing his/her PhD degree, developing numerical methods that will upscale the bio-mechanical behaviour of small cell clusters up to the scale of small tissue samples. The work will be mostly computational, but will involve interactions with biologists and doctors from a specialized lab.

The candidate should have a degree in Engineering (mechanical, aeronautical, civil, or similar), physics, or mathematics, and a Master's degree in one of these fields with excellent academic credentials. More specific skills that will be necessary to successfully carry out the research tasks are:

- Good level of English, both spoken and written.

- Proficiency in C++ or C programming

- Analytical mindset, with a strong background in mathematics and numerical analysis.

- Notions of continuum mechanics.

- Experience with finite element codes.

The researcher will work within the Computational Solid Mechanics Group at IMDEA Materials, using research computational codes and with feedback from biologists and medical doctors. By working at IMDEA Materials Institute, the researcher will be exposed to an international environment, with the chance to collaborate with Spanish and foreign researchers, and to participate in national and international projects and conferences.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent.

- Completed Master's degree in one of the disciplines indicated above.

Conditions

- Selected candidates will be included in a grant request to the Comunidad de Madrid, as described in "ORDEN 3789/2022, DEL VICEPRESIDENTE, CONSEJERO DE EDUCACIÓN Y UNIVERSIDADES, POR LA QUE SE CONVOCAN AYUDAS PARA LA CONTRATACIÓN DE PERSONAL INVESTIGADOR PREDOCTORAL EN FORMACIÓN PARA EL AÑO 2022."

IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to equal opportunities, diversity and the promotion of a healthy work environment and work-life balance. Female applicants are encouraged to apply to our research and technical positions. See our Gender Equality Plan here and our Code of Ethics here.

Besides on-the-job technical training, IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to training the Institute’s scientists and staff in “soft” or transversal skills. See the available training here.
