ERC-funded post-doctoral positions in Myelin Biology

The Nerve Disorders Laboratory at CIMUS/University of Santiago de Compostela (International Campus of Excellence), Spain is seeking to recruit three highly motivated post-doctoral scholars wishing to advance their research and career prospects. The positions are funded by a recently awarded ERC Consolidator grant to the lab head, Dr Ashwin Woodhoo.

The lab investigates gene regulatory mechanisms in Schwann cell biology with a particular focus on demyelinating disorders, cancer and nerve repair. The successful candidates will be integrated in a multidisciplinary team comprising computational, molecular and cellular biologists:

The positions are for 3 years initially, which can be extended for up to five years. The laboratory will support initiatives to strengthen the scientific career of postdoctoral trainees in accordance to the level and achievements demonstrated. In this sense, the candidates will be encouraged and strongly supported by the laboratory and centre to apply for competitive fellowships.

Candidate 1 – Bioinformatics/Computational Biology:

The successful candidates will be actively working in specific projects with single-cell and bulk transcriptomics and epigenomics.

The applicants must have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related discipline with at least 3 years of proven experience in analyses of genome-wide NGS data (such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, bisulfite sequencing and/or HiC). The candidate must have proficiency working with existing bioinformatic tools and developing new algorithms and excellent bioinformatic and programming skills (e.g. Perl, Python, C/C++, R).

Candidates 2/3– Cellular/Molecular Biology:

The successful candidates will be actively working in specific projects related with genome editing of ribosomal genes, and mechanistic and functional implications in in vitro and in vivo systems.

The applicants must have a PhD degree in neuroscience, cell biology, or molecular biology with a strong background in mammalian cell biology, CRISPR genetic manipulation and biochemistry. Excellent experimental and analytical skills in advanced cell culture and molecular techniques, and mouse genetics including animal experimentation are mandatory. A strong publication track record with first-author publications is a must.

Application

An employment application must contain the following documents in English and submitted to awoodhoo@cicbiogune.es:

  • o A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • o A complete list of publications
  • o A personal letter highlighting previous scientific accomplishments, technical expertise and why the candidate is interested in joining the host lab (no more than one page)
  • o Two reference letters (to be sent directly after the first selection round)
