Job description
We are hiring a postgraduate researcher focused on Data Journalism to work for at least one year in the research project “CIVIC: Intelligent characterisation of the veracity of the information related to COVID-19”, funded by the Spanish Fundación BBVA. The candidate will mainly focus on research tasks.
The main objectives of this project are:
-
To collect disinformation data in social media (news, tweets,...).
-
To develop natural language models that help to understand the nature behind disinformation.
-
To assist in the verification and labelling of fake news or misleading information
-
To train and test machine/deep learning models to predict the veracity of information in advance.
The successful applicant will work in a multi-disciplinary team of computer scientists in Madrid, and their partners in the CIVIC project. This is a grant of Fundación BBVA (https://www.fbbva.es/noticias/la-fundacion-bbva-impulsa-20-proyectos-de-investigacion-sobre-covid-19-en-biomedicina-big-data-e-inteligencia-artificial-ecologia-y-veterinaria-economia-y-ciencias-sociales-y-humanidades/) coordinated by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, involving different partners from European countries. The ultimate goal of this project is to address the growing need for solutions to face fake news dissemination, giving useful tools to the population and, specially to social media users, to verify information veracity.
