LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES TO DEVELOP THE TFM IN THE IMMUNOBIOLOGY LAB AT CNIC

Dr. David Sancho offers the possibility to carry out the Master's Final Dissertation (TFM) in his Immunobiology group at the Spanish National Cardiovascular Research Centre (CNIC).

Scientific area: Metabolomics as a tool to study cellular immunometabolism

The student will apply a metabolomic approach to assess the cellular metabolism of immune cells (T lymphocytes, dendritic cells, and macrophages) aiming at exploring how changes in the metabolism can shape their function. The student will learn the untargeted metabolomics workflow that includes sample preparation, development of analytical methods, data processing, identification of metabolites and altered biological pathways. In addition, the integration of metabolomics data with other variables such as data from other omics, including transcriptomics, and immunological parameters of interest, among others, will be explored.

This TFM offer will give the student the opportunity to participate in a multidisciplinary research project where analytical and computational skills will be applied to explore the cutting edge field of the immunometabolism. Therefore, this opportunity would be suited to students with a keen interest in both experimental and computational biology. Previous experience with metabolomics techniques and mass spectrometry in general would be an advantage.

Requirements:

  • Being a graduate student, of any nationality, in studies related to biomedical sciences and areas related to this field (chemistry), with him/her being in possession of the necessary qualification to access Master's studies.
  • Being enrolled in a Master's program related to biomedical sciences.
  • Have an academic record with grade equal to or greater than 8 (on a scale of 0 to 10 points)

Valuable requirements:

  • Experience in developing analytical methods based on chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.
  • Experience in the use of bioinformatic tools for the analysis of data obtained by mass spectrometry and metabolomics
  • Programming skills and knowledge of languages R and PythonInterested applicants should submit by email a cover letter and a CV along with 2-3 letters of reference to David Sancho (dsancho@cnic.es), indicating “Metabolomics TFM” in the email subject.
