One postdoctoral researcher position is available in Dr. Nogueira's group (www.mobiochem.com) at the Autonomous University of Madrid in the field of simulation of biological systems.
Project: The research project focuses on the theoretical study of the photophysics of photosensitizers (e.g., anthraquinones) embedded into lipid bilayers, which are employed in photodynamic therapy treatments. The mechanistic steps that will be investigated include the permeation of the photosensitizer into lipid bilayers, the photophysical processes induced by UV-vis light, and reactivity between the photosensitizer and the bilayer. It is expected that the postdoctoral researcher participates in other research projects.
Duration and start date: The candidate should ideally start on January 2020 and will be hired for 2 years.
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have, by the date of appointment (January, 2020), a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics or related discipline with a strong background in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. The appointee will use classical molecular dynamics, nonadiabatic molecular dynamics, quantum chemistry calculations, QM/MM, and enhanced-sampling techniques (e.g., umbrella sampling). Specific knowledge on some of these methods, scripting and coding experience, and good English writing and speaking skills are required. In addition, the applicant should be able to work independently, supervise PhD and master students, and collaborate with other theoretical and experimental groups.
Salary: Gross salary (before applying national income taxes) is 26880 euros/year and includes Spanish Social Security and public healthcare.
Funding: The Comunidad de Madrid regional government provides funding for this job from the call to attract research talent to work in research groups at the Madrid region (Ref. 2018-T1/BMD-10261). The duration of the contract is conditioned to the positive evaluation of the project in the monitoring phase, as regulated in the article 25 of the call guidelines (BOCAM order 2273/2018).
Application: Applications must be submitted to Juanjo Nogueira at juan.nogueira(at)uam.es and to Beatriz Martín at beatriz.martin(at)uam.es by September 30th 2019.
