The Socioeconomic Impact Assessment Group (Department of Economics) at the University of Alcalá is looking for a motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in a three-year position within the Horizon Europe project “EPISODE.” The focus of the research will be the sustainability assessment of energy storage systems, a critical and rapidly evolving area in the energy sector. We offer cutting-edge research with a close connection to the European battery research ecosystem, including Batteries Europe, EERA, and the European battery value chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct life cycle assessments (LCA) and inventory modelling of energy storage systems.
- Develop impact assessment methods and advanced data processing approaches
- Collaborate closely with European Union institutions, EU legislation bodies, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Engage with the European battery research ecosystem, including Batteries Europe, EERA, and the European battery value chain.
- Identify funding options and write research grants
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in their LCA research
- Present research at conferences and teach concepts at workshops
- Opportunity to co-teach LCA and to develop a, industrial ecology inspired course on resource flows and sustainable economy
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Sustainability Assessment, Energy Systems, Environmental Engineering).
- Proven experience in life cycle assessment (LCA) and inventory modelling.
- Strong knowledge of energy storage systems, particularly batteries.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in energy system modelling and understanding of electricity markets.
- Proficiency in Python and relevant data science tools.
- Familiarity with optimization and machine learning techniques.
- Experience in data mining.
- Strong academic writing portfolio
