The research activities target different aspects of 6G and include, among other topics, the deployment of enhanced radio coverage solutions using UAVs and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces; the design and evaluation of cloud-native software architectures for virtual network functions; novel orchestration algorithms for time-critical applications such as health services, metaverse, and robotics, etc.

The requirements to apply are:

  • Proficiency in English (Spanish is not required)
  • MSc degree or a similar degree which fulfils the entry requirements for doctoral studies at UC3M.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Strong background in networking and programming
  • Hands-on experience with switches, routers, controllers, and containers
  • Top academic records.

PhD student position in Edge Intelligence and IoT

Edge Networks Group and NetEcon Group

 

Edge Networks and NetEcon Research Groups at IMDEA invite applications for a PhD position in the field of edge intelligence, working on distributed machine learning (ML) inference to better support ML applications in the ecosystem of IoT and edge computing. The candidate will be jointly supervised by Jaya Prakash Champati and Sergey Gorinsky.

Academic Qualifications:

IMDEA Networks’ Pervasive Wireless System Group headed by Prof. Domenico Giustiniano invites applications for one PhD position in the area of LiFi technology for smart greenhouses. As Internet of Things (IoT) devices are getting miniaturized, new challenges must be addressed to communicate, compute and sense, and battery-free devices and new ways to communicate using light are promising solutions for sustainable agriculture. As a member of the team, the researcher will contribute to the research conducted in the team in sustainable agriculture as part of EU and national projects.

Skills Required for the PhD position:

  • We expect an excellent degree in electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering or equivalent disciplines
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory
  • Solid background in embedded systems and communication
  • Hands-on experience with experimental work

The Networks Data Science group at IMDEA Networks Institute has an opening for one PhD student in the area of mobile network traffic analysis and intelligence. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing activities of the group, by (i) analyzing massive service-level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) collected in operational 4G/5G networks, (ii) drawing insights on their dynamics and long-term evolution as 5G deployments spread out, and (iii) using the results to support the design of practical AI solutions for the automation of network functionalities.

As a member of the team, the PhD student will be involved in cutting-edge research, will participate in the national and international research projects with academic and industrial partners, and will perform analytical and experimental work with other team members and international collaborators.
