Description:

The Mechanics of Materials group of IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for a Post-doctoral research associate to work in the research project MAFMA (multiscale modelling of fatigue in Mg alloys) funded by the Programa Talento Comunidad de Madrid. Research activities will be the development of multiscale modeling strategies for deformation and failure inside Mg alloys under cyclic loading. The research associate will use crystal plasticity and phase field to study the role played by slip bands and twin bands on plasticity and microcrack nucleation.

Requirements:

  • Candidates should hold PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Solid Mechanics, Computer Science (or related discipline) with excellent academic credentials and a strong commitment to develop an academic career in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Programming skill with Fortran or C, and Fluent English (oral and written) are required.
  • Previous experience in finite element method, crystal plasticity and phase field modeling is necessary.

Conditions:

Full time contract including social security coverage.

Salary depending on previous experience and credentials.

Starting date: Available immediately; open until filled.

Besides on-the-job technical training, IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to train the Institute’s scientists and staff in “soft” or transversal skills. See the available training here: https://materials.imdea.org/career/transversal-training-2/
