We are a Structural Biology group aiming at the study of host-pathogen interactions in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of human Tuberculosis. For this purpose, we use a multidisciplinary approach with X-Ray Crystallography as main technique. A 3.5-year predoctoral contract is now available in our group to work on the recently awarded research project 2019-T1/BMD-14774, funded by the “Programa de Atracción de Talento” of the Comunidad de Madrid. This is an exciting structural biology program aiming at understanding the molecular basis of secretion of virulence factors in M. tuberculosis via ESX secretion systems.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with international connections and acquire an extensive training in wide range of techniques including molecular biology, protein expression and purification, state-of-the-art crystallography and other biophysical techniques. Through this training the candidate will tackle the structural/functional characterization of ESX secretion systems’ components using X-ray crystallography in combination with other biophysical approaches. The project also contemplates exploring ESXs as drug-targets, and the potential development of inhibitors targeting these secretion systems.
We are looking for a highly motivated predoctoral fellow interested in carrying out his/her PhD in Structural Biology. The candidate should have a master’s degree in Biochemistry or related areas (Biotechnology or Pharmacy). Expertise in laboratories of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or X-Ray Crystallography, and good knowledge of English will be considered favourably.
If interested please include your motivation letter and reference contacts to your CV.
