A4-year PhD Fellowship position is available to join the Laboratory of Neurobiology at the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience and the UPVE/HU (https://www.achucarro.org/es/research/group/laboratory-of-neurobiology). The student will participate in a project, led by Dr. Carlos Matute and Dr. María Domercq, aimed to investigate the impact of oligodendroglial NMDA receptors on myelin plasticity and axonal excitability and its therapeutic potential on demyelinating disorders. The student will join an interdisciplinary group in a research center worldwide recognized in the study of glial cells in CNS physiology and pathology. The project will use chemogenetic tools to selectively stimulate oligodendrocytes (OLs), the myelinating cells of the CNS, and it will use a battery of techniques (patch clamp electrophysiology; electron, confocal and two-photon microscopy) to analyze the functional consequences of oligodendroglial NMDA receptors stimulation.
