ICCRAM (International Research Center in CRMs for Advanced Industrial Technologies), is an International Excellence Research Center located at the University of Burgos facilities, which is developing activities in the following areas: Biophysics, Biotechnology, Industrial Technology, Materials Science, Nanosafety, Materials design, Nanotechnology, Resource management efficiency, Eco-innovation and Substitution of critical raw materials. ICCRAM is a major partner in international organizations with participation in 16 H2020 Projects

 

Job description:

The Sustainability group of ICCRAM is participating in different projects evaluating the sustainable aspects of innovative and novel materials and production processes, in particular for the automotive and aerospace sectors through LCA and LCC approaches. The analysis is intended to optimize the materials design as well as the production processes, use and end of life in terms of sustainability, coming to a eco-design approach to be integrated into the market strategy.

For the period of two years the candidate will be involved in the evaluation of LCA and LCC of the production of different types of lightweight nanomaterials including Metal Matrix Composites, aluminum, magnesium and titanium alloys and their production processes (including Additive Manufacturing, casting and Spark Plasma Sintering). The candidate will be participating in LIGHT-ME project for this task: An Open Innovation Ecosystem for upscaling production processes of lightweight metal alloys composites (H2020-DT-NMBP-01-2018), but also he/she will be linked to upcoming Projects related to LCA/LCC development in different research areas, materials and processes.

The selected candidate will be linked to the sustainability area of ICCRAM. The research will be executed in collaboration with different European institutions and companies as part of different project consortiums.

Specific tasks:

· Definition of the priorities and time schedule for the LCA / LCC for the different materials and methods required in the different on-going EU Projects.

· Communication with partners for data inventory and environmental strategy definition in the metal lightweight materials production field and also in the different projects specific products (Waste Cooking Oil refinement processes, nanocrystalline alloys, graphene, etc.).

· Determination of LCA scope and identification of environmental performance of different products and industries.

· Evaluation of the environmental and economic performance throught LCA and LCC approaches of scaling-up strategies..

· Definition of strategies for scaling-up and process optimization thought the environmental and economic perspective, following the eco-design perspective.

· Report of the activities, participation and presentation of the work developed in Project Meetings.

Requirements:

· MSc Degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Materials Engineering, Chemistry Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related disciplines.

· PhD in the mentioned disciplines will be valuable.

· At least Five years of experience in the field of sustainability assessment, process optimization, metallic materials and/or nanomaterials.

· Skills in LCA software- GABI or SIMAPRO.

· Experience in participation in European Projects will be valuable.

· Great communicative (both written and spoken) skills in English (at least C1 level).

· Proven international professional expertise and excellent collaborative skills.

· Able to work independently with little supervision.

· Availability and willingness to travel abroad for project meetings and research secondments.

· Proficiency in MS Office. Complementary software will be valuable..

· A 2-year senior position which is available at the University of Burgos-ICCRAM.

· Salary: The offered salary will dependent on qualifications and work experience
