A post-doctoral position is available at the University of Alcalá de Henares within the group of “Procesos Catalíticos Sostenibles con Compuestos Organometálicos (Sustainable Catalytic Processes with Organometallic Compounds); SOSCATCOM” (https://soscatcom.es) under the supervision of Dr Christopher J. Whiteoak. This post-doctoral position is part of a recently awarded project from the MICINN (Proyectos I+D+i» 2020 - Modalidades Retos Investigación y Generación de Conocimiento). The position is initially funded for 12 months.

Project:

The project involves the application of our recently published gallium catalyst (ChemCatChem, 2021, 13, 4099- 4110) for the synthesis of cyclic carbonate compounds from bio-derived feedstocks and the use of these compounds for the preparation of Non-Isocyanate PolyUrethanes (NIPU’s). This will involve synthesis of bioderived multi-epoxide compounds using standard synthetic techniques, fully characterising their structures, and converting them to the key cyclic carbonate precursor. The resulting NIPU’s arising from these precursors will be studied in depth using techniques such as NMR, mass spectroscopy and GPC.
